Mitsubishi will debut what it calls an up-market SUV concept at the Paris auto show this fall. Although the automaker isn’t providing many clues, we do know the Mitsubishi Grand Tourer Concept will feature plug-in hybrid technology.
“The combination of advanced driving technologies packaged using the latest Japanese design trends and quality will propel the Ground Tourer Concept for effortless cruising in all driving conditions on and off road; all while accommodating passengers in a quiet, comfortable and luxuriously crafted interior,” Mitsubishi said in a recent release.
Based on the teaser image Mitsubishi just sent out, the crossover features a sloped, coupe-like roofline. Bold body lines and large wheel arches finish off the look.
The concept looks somewhat familiar, as it bears a vague resemblance to the Mitsubishi eX concept we first saw at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. Along with its radical design, the eX boasts an all-electric powertrain, and rumor has it that a production version is in the cards.
If this new concept receives the go-ahead for production, let’s hope it comes to market quicker than the Outlander PHEV’s slow U.S. roll-out. Perhaps we’ll learn more of Mitsubishi’s plans in late September, when the Paris auto show opens to the press.
