Subaru’s best-selling vehicle in the U.S. is about to get a full redesign. The 2020 Subaru Outback will debut April 17 at the New York Auto Show.
Ahead of the reveal, Subaru has released a teaser image of the new wagon. Even though Subaru is notoriously conservative when it comes to design updates, we can already see some considerable changes happening on the Outback. It has a new foglight design, and it appears the headlights take on a slightly different shape. This particular model rides on a set of nice-looking black wheels.
Subaru hasn’t teased the Outback’s new interior, but if it’s anything like the new Legacy, it will look pretty nice. That model gets optional Nappa leather upholstery and an 11.6-inch touchscreen that looks like a large tablet.
It’s likely the Outback will continue to share powertrains with the Legacy. If that’s the case, it will receive a standard 2.5-liter flat-four and an optional 2.4-liter turbocharged flat-four. The former engine makes 182 hp on the Legacy, and the latter pumps out 260 ponies. The previous flat-six should disappear since the new turbo-four will put out such significant power.
We expect the new Outback to sit on the Subaru Global Platform like the Legacy. This architecture promises increased rigidity in the body and chassis, which should translate to improvements in ride quality.
