2016 Tesla Model X Starts at $81,200

Tesla Motors recently expanded its Model X online configurator to more customers, while releasing more pricing details on the new all-electric crossover. Serving as the base model is the 2016 Tesla Model X 70D, which carries a starting price of $81,200 including destination. Prices, of course, change once you factor in the $7,500 federal tax credit and other state credits.

All models come standard with a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain. The Model X 70D is equipped with a 70 kilowatt-hour battery that provides an EPA-estimated 220 miles of range. Tesla claims the Model X 70D will run to 60 mph in 6.0 seconds.

Next in the lineup is the Model X 90D, which starts at $96,700 and is fitted with a 90-kWh battery and standard Smart Air Suspension. Its EPA-estimated range is 257 miles and its claimed 0-60 mph time drops to 4.8 seconds. Sitting at the top is the Model X P90D with a starting price of $116,700. Its EPA-estimated range is 250 miles, and acceleration to 60 mph is estimated at 3.8 seconds or 3.2 seconds with the Ludicrous performance option. The P90D includes a standard Active Spoiler.

A five-seat configuration is standard, though customers have to option to choose a six or seven-seat setup at a cost of $3,000 and $4,000, respectively. The Autopilot suite of autonomous technologies brings prices up by $2,500 ($3,000 if activated after delivery), while the Premium Upgrade Package costs $4,500 and adds a long list of features like ventilated front seats, Alcantara headliner, interior ambient lighting, added leather surfaces, and the “self-presenting driver’s door.” Other options include a premium sound system ($2,500), cold weather package ($1,000), and a towing package ($750).

Deliveries of the Model X began at the end of September and demand is high. If you’re not already on the current production list, expect to wait a long time before your Model X is delivered.
