Volvo Will Deliver Your Shopping Goods Directly to Your Trunk

To aid holiday shoppers, Volvo is offering an in-car delivery service ahead of the two busiest retail days: Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

The Swedish automaker has teamed up with Nordic logistics company PostNord to have merchandise  from online retailers Lekmer.com (toy and baby goods) and Mat.se (online groceries) delivered directly to vehicle trunks. According to the automaker, the program, called Volvo In-car Delivery, can help vehicle owners avoid holiday season hassles including finding parking, crowds, and missed deliveries.

Volvo owners can simply choose the In-Car Delivery option when checking out online at the websites of the participating retailers. When the customer chooses this option, a digital key grants a NordPost delivery driver one-time access to the vehicle’s cargo area to deliver the goods. The owner is notified when the shipment has been delivered.

“Christmas is fun – but let’s be honest, it is also a busy time for most families. This service simply makes shopping easier,” said Björn Annwall, senior vice president for Marketing, Sales and Service at Volvo, in a release. “Volvo In-car Delivery provides concrete proof that connected car technologies can be used to save people time and make their lives easier.”

Currently available in Gothenburg, Volvo In-car Delivery will be rolled out in other parts of Sweden and even other countries at a later date. Additionally, more online retailers will be added to the program.

“Volvo is not interested in technology for the sake of technology,” said Klas Bendrik, senior vice president and chief information officer at Volvo. “If a technology does not make a customer’s life easier, better, safer or more fun, we don’t use it.”

Earlier this year, Audi began a similar program in Germany.
