New Kia Rio Headed to Paris Auto Show

Kia will debut its fourth-generation Rio subcompact at the Paris auto show next month, the automaker announced today.

Renderings of the hatchback hint at a striking new design. Not only do they show off a Kia Rio with a low and planted stance and a longer wheelbase, but they also preview narrower headlights and a squarer lower grille. A raked roofline, refreshed taillights, and massive wheels finish off the exterior look. Judging from the interior, the car doesn’t even look like a Rio anymore, as it features a multi-layered dashboard and large touchscreen. We bet the real car’s cabin won’t look quite like this, but the drawing does signal a more mature design.

“The all-new Rio will offer buyers class-leading practicality and safety technology, the latest connectivity features, and more assured and engaging ride and handling characteristic,” Kia promises.

Designers from Germany, California, and Korea worked together to create the car’s new look. Globally, the Rio is Kia’s best-selling model, and more than 473,000 copies were sold in 2015. The fourth-gen Rio will enter production toward the end of this year in Europe, but Kia still hasn’t given a timeline for other markets including the U.S. On our shores, the Rio was just updated for 2016.

The new Kia Rio debuts September 29 at the Paris Motor Show. And if reports are correct, we could see a high-performance Rio GT around 2018.
