2017 Lamborghini Aventador S Revealed With 730 HP

Lamborghini launched the 2017 Aventador S, the successor to the Aventador LP700-4. It boasts an additional 39 hp over its predecessor along with a four-wheel steering system and a new Ego driving mode.

The Aventador’s 6.5-liter V-12 now cranks out 730 hp and 509 lb-ft of torque. The S model will rocket you from 0-62 mph in a blistering 2.9 seconds, according to Lamborghini, and has a top speed of 217 mph.

Up front, the supercar gets a more dynamic nose with two toothy intakes — or fangs — and a longer front splitter. Its rear sports a massive black diffuser that’s also available in carbon fiber to help save weight and improve aerodynamics.

An active rear wing rises in one of three positions depending on speed and selected driving mode. There are also three single exhaust pipe tips centered low to signify the coupe’s new, lighter exhaust system.

“This is the next generation Aventador as well as the expression of new technological and performance milestones in super sports car development,” said Stefano Domenicali, Lamborghini chairman and CEO, in a statement.

“The Aventador S is visionary design, cutting-edge technology and driving dynamics in pure harmony, and elevates the concept of super sports cars to a new level.”

No doubt. This includes, for the first time, four-wheel steering combined with Lamborghini dynamic steering up front, providing better performance at higher speeds on the track and much lower speeds around town.

There are now four driving modes to choose from: Strada, Sport, Corsa, and the new Ego mode. Strada is recommended for daily driving, Sport for rear-wheel fun, and Corsa for the track. Ego mode is not a personality enhancer, but an option that combines the previously mentioned modes in a more customizable traction, steering, and suspension profile for the driver.

Start/stop technology is also included, and an active fuel management system shuts down six of the 12 cylinders when full engine power is not required. To bring this raging bull to halt, carbon ceramic disc brakes are included as standard. Rounding out the package is a new version of the Pirelli P Zero tire, which was designed for better handling with the rear steering system and reduced understeer.

The Aventador S is available for order now and will go on sale this spring. It retails for $421,350, but if you have to ask…
