Mazda pulled the covers off a U.K.-exclusive, special-edition Miata just in time for the worst season for top-down motoring. Aside from a fancy name, the Mazda MX-5 Arctic incorporates only cosmetic changes.
Apropos of the season, this new “Arctic” package infuses the 2017 Mazda Miata with a sharper appearance. Compared to the regular roadster, the Arctic replaces the gloss-black trim with silver pieces, giving the roadster the intended “icy” appearance.
The silver trim extends to the entirety of the car, including the windshield surround, mirror caps, wheels, and headrest hoops. Inside, the regularly black cupholders are now silver, alongside silver scuff plates.
Mechanically, the Mazda MX-5 Arctic packs the standard 1.5-liter I-4 mated to a six-speed manual or automatic. Inside, the car is outfitted with the Grand Touring equipment, including heated leather seats, rain-sensing wipers, and rear parking sensors.
Just 400 of these blue and silver roadsters will make their way to U.K. roads, so get your orders in before the car hits dealer lots in February 2017.
