The minivan class was shaken up by the Chrysler Pacifica this year, and at the Detroit auto show next month, Honda will unveil the newest entry in the segment: the 2018 Odyssey.
Ahead of the next-gen Odyssey’s debut, Honda released one teaser sketch, which shows a sleeker profile and dramatic character lines for a minivan. The taillights feature C-shaped lighting elements like the Civic, and the overall shape of the lamps reminds us of the Pilot. The D-pillar is blacked out at the very bottom for the subtlest take on the floating roof design theme. Meanwhile, the B- and C-pillars aren’t visible at all. This sketch certainly previews a radical minivan design, but based on the prototypes we’ve seen, the next-gen Odyssey’s shape won’t change too much from the current model. Honda says the fifth-generation Odyssey will introduce “sophisticated styling,” in addition to new powertrain technology and innovative features.
Along with the teaser, Honda released four other sketches it calls “teaser scribbles.” These drawings come from the children of the Odyssey team, who in a way contributed to the new minivan’s development. The drawings show features never seen before on a minivan, such as an F1-like dorsal fin and rainbow paint job.
The 2018 Honda Odyssey will debut at the Detroit auto show on January 9 at 12:00 pm EST. Stay tuned to find out if the next Odyssey can unseat FCA’s reigning minivan champ.
