Lincoln has pulled out all the stops once again to promote its new Continental flagship sedan. Matthew McConaughey is back, this time in a new set of TV ads shot in Iceland.
In the new commercials, our eyes are treated to a glacial plain with black sand and shallow water, providing a heavenly backdrop for the Continental. The scenes were shot about 160 miles from Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. The magic is all captured by director Wally Pfister, known for his work on “The Dark Knight” and “Inception.”
“While many are familiar with the Continental nameplate, we wanted them to see our all-new flagship in a whole new way,” said John Emmert, group marketing manager for Lincoln, in a statement. “A car as iconic as Continental could only be shot in a unique locale – one not familiar to viewers.”
In one of the ads, featured below, McConaughey shows off the interior of the 2017 Lincoln Continental. Sitting in the back seat, he demonstrates the Continental’s “chauffeur” switch, which lets rear passengers move the front passenger seat forward to open up more legroom.
The McConaughey campaign is a nice follow-up to Lincoln’s print and social media spread with portrait photographer Annie Leibovitz. The new ads with McConaughey begin airing December 31.
