Rumors about the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse making its debut at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show appear to be true. In addition to releasing a teaser photo of the next-generation crossover, Chevrolet announced it will unveil the 2018 Traverse on January 9.
The teaser photo is a silhouette of a side profile angle, revealing a few lines for the redesigned crossover. There appears to be an upward kink at the lower edge or the rear door window similar to the 2018 GMC Acadia. Taillights and headlights seem slimmer and the side character line is more distinctive than the current model.
Chevrolet claims the eight-passenger 2018 Traverse will boast segment-best cargo room and third-row legroom. Expect updated powertrains and technology as well, including “D-Optic” headlamps that the automaker claims will mimic natural daylight.
The Traverse is currently the oldest crossover in Chevy’s lineup following recent debuts of the 2017 Trax and 2018 Equinox. Rumors also suggest that the next-generation GMC Terrain–which should share its platform with Equinox–will also debut at the Detroit show.
The segment continues to be a top priority for automakers and has seen a few new models including the Mazda CX-9 and Volkswagen Atlas. Despite the Traverse’s age, it continues to sell relatively well, with year-to-date sales through November 2016 at 106,320 units, about 4 percent less compared to the same period last year.
