Porsche Sends Audi a Sentimental Farewell from WEC Racing

Audi officially dropped out of the World Endurance Championship, and its rival Porsche produced a special video to say farewell.

“Do you remember how Audi Sport bid us welcome to the FIA WEC and the 24h of Le Mans three years ago? This is how we would like to say goodbye. Thanks for all the tough fights,” the automaker states.

Porsche is referring to the video Audi produced back in 2014 where an R18 E-Tron Quattro LMP1 race car hustles from Audi’s headquarters in Ingolstadt, Germany to Porsche’s home in Stuttgart. As it travels through the countryside, it passes a farmer on an old Porsche tractor trailer. Once there, the R18 performs a bunch of burnouts to spell out “Welcome Back” on Porsche’s parking lot.

The new video begins with that same tractor trailer, as the farmer hears the news of Audi’s exit from WEC. He heads to Porsche’s headquarters where Audi’s welcome message remains untouched. With a bucket and a brush, the farmer proceeds to alter the message making one last plea to Audi, which you’ll see in the video below.

As previously reported, Audi withdrew from the WEC after 18 years of competition that saw 13 overall victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Instead, Audi will focus its efforts in other motorsports programs, including the growing Formula E series.
