2019 Hyundai Elantra Gets a New Face

Hyundai has updated the Elantra sedan, and the new look is going to take some getting used to. Gone are the soft lines of the previous model, replaced by a pointy new grille and aggressive, triangular headlights.

The automaker also reworked the Elantra’s hood, giving it sharper creases for a more athletic appearance. New 15-, 16-, and 17-inch wheel designs are available, and Limited and Sport models now receive LED headlights. Not wanting to leave the rear alone, Hyundai gave the model a new rear fascia, trunk design, and taillights.

Inside the cabin, Hyundai changed up the instrument cluster and center stack area, redesigning the air vents and audio and temperature controls.  There is also a revised storage area below the center stack that includes an easily accessible USB port, auxiliary port, and 12V outlet, as well as a place to charge your phone wirelessly, if appropriately equipped.

The 2019 Hyundai Elantra comes standard with a 5-inch central screen. But buyers can opt for a new, larger 8-inch multimedia system with navigation on higher trims. Hyundai says the new infotainment system should be more responsive thanks to an upgraded processor. AM, FM, and SiriusXM channels have been combined into one screen, and navigation maps have added a bird’s eye view and HERE HD Traffic. Once again, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available on the Elantra.

Plenty of safety features are also available. Starting from the SEL trim, buyers will receive forward collision avoidance assist, driver attention alert, and lane keep assist. Limited models equipped with the Ultimate package receive more goodies, such as Safe Exit Assist, which alerts passengers planning to exit the vehicle if another car is approaching from behind.

Once again, the Elantra sedan features three engine options: a 2.0-liter engine, a 1.4-liter turbo engine, and a 1.6-liter turbo engine. The 2019 Elantra will be available later this fall.
