Ford has announced that it will sell the Ranger Raptor in Europe in 2019. The Blue Oval used the Gamescom video game show to announce the truck’s availability next year. In addition, the pickup will make its video game debut in Forza Horizon 4.
Like its Asian market counterpart, the Ford Ranger Raptor uses a a twin-turbocharged 2.0-liter diesel four-cylinder engine making 210 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque and paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The turbochargers operate in a sequential pattern, with the smaller unit operating at lower revs and the larger one taking over higher in the rpm band. Ford also programmed the transmission so that the driver can override it anytime via the paddle shifters.
Its chassis has been tuned for off-road performance and features Fox shocks with Positive Sensitive Damping. BF Goodrich all-terrain tires on 17-inch wheels come standard along with a front skid plate made of high-strength steel. The Ranger Raptor can be driven in one of six modes, including Normal, Sport, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Sand, Rock, and Baja for high-speed off-road driving.
Inside, the Ranger Raptor will come with Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen. Raptor-specific sport seats come standard upholstered in a suede-like material and leather with blue stitching.
Key exterior design cues distinguishing the Ranger Raptor from a standard Ranger include a unique grille, flared composite front fenders that can accommodate longer suspension travel and oversized tires, side step boards that also prevent rock spray and air curtains on the front fender for better air flow.
Earlier this year, we caught a left-hand-drive Ranger Raptor prototype on U.S. soil. Sadly, its chances of coming here aren’t high, especially considering the model was made mainly for other global markets where the F-150 isn’t sold and diesel is more popular.
