2017 Genesis G90 Rendering Hints at Brand’s New Design Direction

Hyundai has released its first rendering of the G90, a sedan that will serve as the flagship for the recently re-launched Genesis brand.

The new G90 receives narrow headlights, a large radiator grille surrounded by thick chromed accents, and a winged Genesis emblem. Its short rear end, complete with slim vertical-oriented taillamps, remind us a bit of Mercedes-Benz. The look of this flagship model previews what to expect on Genesis’ future design language.

The reveal comes just a week after Hyundai announced it would revamp its Genesis sub-brand and make it into a full global luxury brand. Accordingly, Genesis plans to sell six new vehicles in the U.S. by 2021, and all of them will sit on rear-wheel-drive platforms. The G90 will usher in the lineup when it debuts for the 2017 model year as a replacement for the Hyundai Equus. After that launch, expect Genesis to roll out the G80, a replacement to the Hyundai Genesis sedan, as well as the G70, an entry-level sports sedan. The brand has yet to announce the other three vehicles headed our way.

Hyundai promises the range-topping G90 will pack “human-centered” technology, engaging driving dynamics, top safety features, and other innovations expected in this segment. We’ll get a better idea of what to expect on the 2017 Genesis G90 when it debuts in Korea early next month.
