During the 2015 Dubai motor show, McLaren pulled back the covers on the 650S Spider Al Sahara 79 by MSO. This model, made by McLaren Special Operations, is unique to the Middle East and features a bespoke paint scheme and specifications that draw inspiration from the culture and landscape of the region.
“This truly unique project — our first in the Middle East — is inspired by a region that is home to some of our most loyal customers,” said Ian Gorsuch, Regional Director for Middle East & Africa, McLaren Automotive, in a release.
Under the hood, the special 650S Spider is powered by the same mid-mounted 3.8-liter twin turbo V-8 engine that powers the standard 650S Coupe and Spider models. The engine delivers 641 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque, giving the model a 0-62 mph time of 3.0 seconds with a top speed of 204 mph.
The McLaren 650S Spider Al Sahara 79 features contrasting details on the exterior, with a pearlescent white gold exterior color that utilized 24 carat gold particles to give it a subtle shimmer. Gloss black lightweight forged wheels and a retractable hard top contrast with the exterior color, along with the carbon fiber side intakes, front splitter, rear diffuser, and full-length carbon fiber MSO-branded side blades.
Inside, the black and white theme continues, with black and Almond White leather sport seats with contrasting stitching. The switchgear and heating vents have been finished in a dark gold. The steering wheel, center console, and door panels continue the black and white contrast appearance.
