The next-generation Porsche Panamera sedan will debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show in October, according to a new report from AUTOMOBILE. In addition to a new chassis, the luxury sport sedan will receive new drivetrains.
While it’s no secret the next Panamera will ride on the Volkswagen Group’s new MSB (modular rear-wheel-drive component set) architecture, the new report provides information on the sedan’s new engines. A new twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 with cylinder deactivation will replace the current 4.8-liter V-8. Power for the new V-8 will be as high as 600 hp for the Turbo model. We suspect the relatively new twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 in the current model will carry over.
Turbodiesel options include both 3.0-liter V-6 and 4.0-liter V-8 engines that are said to be able to make around 326 hp and 450 hp, respectively. Additionally, Porsche will offer two hybrid models. The first hybrid could feature an Audi developed twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6 with around 330 hp, while the second is a 4.0-liter V-8 and a new eight-speed automatic that will make around 475 hp and 600 lb-ft combined.
The MSB architecture under the new Panamera will feature a front mid-engine layout with rear- or all-wheel-drive configurations.
As with previous prototypes we’ve spotted, the report says the new Panamera’s styling will be more elegant and sportier than the current model especially in the rear hatch area. New interior design will feature two large in-dash displays, new technology, and a less cluttered layout for the switchgear. Plans for an extended-wheelbase model have been scrapped, though the Panamera Shooting Brake previewed by the Panamera Sport Turismo concept car could arrive in 2019.
