The 2016 Ford Focus RS already has a big horsepower and torque lead over its competitors, but for European owners that want a little more out of their all-wheel-drive hot hatch there’s the Ford Performance by Mountune upgrade. That OEM-sanctioned enhancement raises peak power using overboost to 370 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque, an increase of 20 hp and 26 lb-ft over the stock turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost I-4.
Ford Performance worked with U.K.-based tuner Mountune, the company behind the upgrades for the Focus ST, to develop the Focus RS power package. The dealer-installed kit consists of a reprogrammed ECU, high-performance air filter, upgraded air recirculation valve, and an alloy crossover duct with silicone hoses. The overboost function is available for 12 seconds at a time, which is more than enough to get a Mountune-modified Focus RS to 62 mph. Ford estimates that will take 4.5 seconds. Top speed is unchanged at 165 mph.
The package is priced at £899 (roughly $1,175) for U.K. customers, and will be available in select European markets. The upgrade can be installed by any Mountune-appointed Ford dealer in about an hour and a half. The package does not void the vehicle warranty.
Mountune already offers a variety of performance parts for the Focus RS independent from Ford on its website. There’s no word yet on whether the Ford Performance by Mountune upgrade will arrive stateside.
