Make room for the latest electric car company to enter the ever-growing playing field. NextEV launched its new NIO brand and the limited-edition EP9 all-electric supercar.
The new EV capable of 1,341 hp (one megawatt of power) made its debut at the Saatchi Gallery in London.
Last month, the NIO EP9 lapped the Nürburgring in 7:05.12 to become the fastest EV in the world, the Chinese company announced.
Weighing in at 3,825 pounds, the sleek two-seater features a carbon monocoque chassis and carbon composite body. Earlier in November, the EP9 broke the EV record at France’s Circuit Paul Ricard with a time of 01:52.78.
There are four high performance motors with four individual gearboxes. The maker said the EP9 can sprint to 0-62 mph in 2.7 seconds and has a top speed of 195 mph.
“Today we launched our electric supercar that broke the record at the Nordschleife. The NIO EP9 was born to push limits and is the first stage of automotive production for NIO,” said William Li, NextEV founder and chairman in a release.
“It is a statement of our vision and technical and manufacturing capabilities. It is a best-in-class product that showcases what is possible with electric vehicles.”
The two-seater features an interchangeable lithium battery system that can be charged in 45 minutes and has a range of approximately 265 miles.
Pricing and availability haven’t been announced, but we imagine it won’t be cheap or go on sale anytime soon.
