Refreshing or Revolting: 2017 Nissan Versa Note

The 2017 Nissan Versa Note is the latest model to get the automaker’s signature “V-Motion” grille, giving the small hatchback a visual tie to its more popular siblings like the Altima sedan and the refreshed 2017 Rogue crossover. While not as radical as the new 2017 Nissan Micra hatch (sold outside of the U.S.), the 2017 Versa Note should stay relatively competitive in the subcompact segment thanks to its visual tweaks, which we’ll outline below.

The Versa Note’s mug looks a tad more premium thanks to the new grille with the large chrome V. The Nissan logo appears to be slightly larger as well.  Headlights still have the automaker’s signature “boomerang” look, but the effect is actually more subdued compared to the outgoing version. Nissan also tweaked the bumper, with new horizontally oriented fog lamps and a color-matched bar, which helps make the Note look wider.

New wheel designs include one that mimics the Altima, but other than that, there aren’t any changes to report for the side or rear view. The Note used in the photo is sporting a new hue called Monarch Orange–Deep Blue Purple is another color added for model-year 2017.

The interior essentially carries over from the 2016 Nissan Versa Note, though the automaker did make a few tweaks based on customer feedback. Nissan says it made the front cupholders larger, relocated the USB port to the front of the center console, and added a second 12-volt outlet on higher trim levels. The steering wheel also appears to be redesigned.

Last week our readers took a close look at the 2017 Mini Countryman to determine if the new crossover was refreshing or revolting. Favorable comments were rare.

Didsomeonesaycars? said the 2017 Countryman is “just a reasonable evolution” but is “still kind of quirky and unique.”

Meanwhile, Doubleminty said “I don’t think I’d buy one because the styling just looks weird on something as big as these [sic]”
