As automotive critics, it’s easy for us at Motor Trend to look for the negative when it comes to cars. But the truth is cars are getting better and better with each passing year. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we polled our online staff to reveal which automotive features we’re thankful for this Thanksgiving.
There’s nothing better than technologies that make our lives easier while sitting in traffic. During long drives, adaptive cruise control comes in handy, particularly if it has stop & go capability that will bring the car to a complete stop if need be. Of course, we can sit here and list a variety of automotive alerts and safety gizmos, many of which are genuinely helpful. But we’re particularly grateful for active safety systems such as automatic emergency braking, a life-saving technology which is now available on a wide variety of cars. We’re even more thankful that automakers have agreed to make emergency braking a standard feature on virtually all new cars in the U.S. by 2022.
We’re also thankful for the features that make our cars feel a little more like home. Seat warmers are great for cold days (or back pain!), and satellite radio makes us wonder how we could ever live without so many different channels to choose from. Head-up displays may seem like a luxury, but we love how more mainstream cars are starting to offer them. Finally, how would the list be complete without massaging seats or hands-free keyless entry?
What automotive features are you thankful for? Let us know in the comments below, and have a happy Thanksgiving.
