The Mercedes-Maybach lineup adds another member to its small family, and this one will be quite rare. Making its debut at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show is the 2017 Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet, which the automaker is limiting to 300 units, with just 75 of those making their way to the U.S.
Powering the rare droptop is a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V-12 making 621 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. You’ll note it’s the same output as the automaker’s Mercedes-AMG S65, thus the “S650” designation in its name. The high-powered engine is mated to a seven-speed automatic sending power to the rear wheels–we expect a 0-60 mph time of around 4 seconds.
A number of Maybach touches set this cabrio apart from the normal S-Class. One special distinction can be found on the convertible top cover, which is finished with wooden trim that includes an inlaid Maybach logo. The front bumper is redone with more chrome at the lower edge, and the 20-inch forged wheels are a new design for Maybach.
The Maybach S650 Cabriolet will be sold with three color scheme options including one with Zircon Red paint and porcelain-colored leather. The second combines Cote d’Azur Blue paint with Porcelain and saddle brown leather, and the third option includes Designo Diamond White paint with a porcelain and Yacht Blue interior. Also included is a four-piece luggage set (utilizing the vehicle’s leather and color scheme) and a car cover with diamond-quilted pattern. Badges indicating the vehicle’s series number complete the look.
Pricing hasn’t been released yet, but expect it to easily exceed the Mercedes-Benz S550 Cabriolet’s MSRP, which starts at $134,225.
