Report: Porsche Won’t Go Below a Boxster or Macan

If you want a smaller and more affordable Porsche 718 Boxster/Cayman or a Macan crossover, don’t hold your breath. Porsche AG global sales chief, Detlev von Platen told Automotive News it won’t happen.

“There is absolutely no intention to go below what we have today,” von Platen said at the Porsche Experience Center that opened in Carson, Calif., recently. “We have nothing to gain by creating a cheaper Porsche in the future. It’s not about quantity, it’s about quality in what we do,” he told the news site.

Von Platen also confirmed that Porsche was developing another EV sport sedan and it will focus on developing new services for its future product strategy. Think more parking apps and other tech gadgets.

Porsche’s all-new $60 million Experience Center and Motorsport Headquarters features a driver development track, race car exhibit, retail store, and a fancy restaurant.

The Southern California 53-acre venue opened last week and is open to the public. Porsche has sold over 15,482 Macans so far this year.

It’s the company’s best-selling model and has already exceeded last year’s sales totals.
