When Mazda announced that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were coming to the 2018 Mazda6, we wondered when we might see the features roll out to other products in the lineup. Now, we know the 2019 Mazda CX-9 will be next to receive the popular smartphone-mirroring capabilities when it goes on sale in September.
Mazda announced that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will come standard on the CX-9 Touring trim and above for the 2019 model year, skipping only the base Sport model. Once connected, your Apple or Android device will be controllable via the 8-inch Mazda Connect infotainment screen (lower models get a 7-inch screen as standard). Also new to the Touring trim is a frameless rearview mirror with auto-dimming. Meanwhile, the Grand Touring trim gets a new 7-inch TFT display in the gauge cluster and adds a surround-view camera system to its list of features. Additionally, all 2019 CX-9s receive better sound insulation and a revised suspension that’s been tuned for a smoother ride.
The 2019 Mazda CX-9 starts at $33,275 including destination for a front-wheel-drive Sport model, an increase of $205 from last year. The Touring trim starts at $36,325 and the Grand Touring starts at $41,835. Topping the range is the CX-9 Signature, which starts at $46,360 and comes standard with all-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is a $1,800 option across the board.
Mazda still hasn’t said which other models are due to get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but here’s hoping the upgrades aren’t far behind for the rest of the lineup.
