Ford Recalls 313,000 Older Sedans for Headlight Issue

Ford is recalling nearly 313,000 Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis vehicles to replace a faulty lighting control module that may cause the headlights to lose power. Affected vehicles are from the 2003-2005 model years.

The Problem: On select Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis vehicles, the soldier joints on the lighting control module may crack and interrupt power output to the headlights, increasing the risk of an accident at night. As of now, Ford says 11 accidents and one minor injury related to the issue have been reported. According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, most of the drivers that have complained of the problem say the headlights failed suddenly without warning, although some reported the headlights flickered a bit before turning off.

The Fix: Ford will notify owners of the affected vehicles, and dealers will replace the lighting control module for the customer free of charge.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: This recall involves certain 2003-2005 Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis vehicles that were built at the St. Thomas Assembly Plant between October 3, 2001 and August 2, 2005. A total of 312,814 vehicles may be affected by this recall in North America, with 296,004 of those here in the U.S, 14,714 in Canada, and the remaining 2,096 in Mexico.
