Volkswagen has released a teaser video on its YouTube page for a concept car that they will be showing at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January in Las Vegas. The 10-second video shows glimpses of what looks like a small van. Earlier this year, Volkswagen released a photo of its CES-bound concept car with part of its front fascia revealed thanks to LED headlights, fog lights, and an illuminated grille.
While the video doesn’t give much of the exterior design away, the parts of the car it does show indicate that this could be the long-rumored electric Microbus. The car’s front fascia is also reminiscent of a minivan, which makes the possibility of the car being a people mover even more likely. Additionally, the shots of the rear end also indicate that there’s a liftgate instead of a conventional trunk. Looking closely at the 2- to 3-second mark, you’ll catch a glimpse of the car’s name, which has an “- e” at the end, hinting that it packs some form of electric powertrain.
Along with the production version of the Chevrolet Bolt and BMW’s new “Vision Car” concept with an updated AirTouch multimedia interface, Volkswagen’s new electrified concept should be one of the automotive stars at CES. The car is also rumored to debut a new electric drivetrain that promises to have a range of somewhere in the neighborhood of 250-310 miles.
