Tonight, the hit sci-fi show “The X-Files” returns to television after 14 years off the air. Actors Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny will reprise their roles of Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, respectively, and the two FBI agents will pilot a new Ford Explorer in their pursuit of the truth (which is still out there).
Scully will drive the Explorer throughout the six-part mini-series. The Explorer, a range-topping Platinum model, will be joined on screen by an Escape, Mustang, and Taurus. The partnership revives a long-time association between “The X-Files” and Ford vehicles, as Mulder drove a Ford Taurus when the show debuted in 1993. The blatant product placement of the Explorer isn’t completely unbelievable, given that the crossover is popular among government fleets.
Will a Ford Explorer help the show recapture the magic that made it the smash hit it was in the ‘90s and early 2000s? Probably not, but we’re still anxious to see all the paranormal drama unfold on TV once again. “The X-Files” airs tonight after the NFC championship game, estimated to be around 10 p.m. EST/7 p.m. PST. The Explorer, however, won’t make an appearance until the second night of the two-part premiere, happening at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST on Monday.
