A new report from Auto Express states that Audi will reveal the Q2 small crossover at the 2016 Geneva auto show. In December 2015, we reported that Audi has confirmed the launch of the Q2 for 2016. The Q2 will be the first car to debut as part of the brand’s crossover offensive, slotting below the Q3, and aimed at a younger audience that Audi hasn’t considered before.
Riding on Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform, the Q2 will share its underpinnings with the Audi A3, Volkswagen Golf, and the upcoming Volkswagen Tiguan. The car will only be available as a four-door and will come in either front- or all-wheel drive configurations. Expect engine choices to mirror those of the A3 compact car.
Design is where the Audi Q2 will set itself apart from other Audi crossovers like the Q7. The exterior is expected to be less conservative and more customizable to appeal more to a younger audience. Like the A1 city car, which isn’t sold in the U.S., owners will be able to extensively personalize their Q2s with contrasting roof colors and C-pillars in aluminum or carbon fiber. Inside the Q2’s cabin there will be an array of different trim materials and a variety of interior colors. However, the car will use many of the existing technologies and powertrains that the brand currently utilizes. Though some companies like Mercedes-Benz have released sporty versions of their compact crossovers, S and RS variants of the Q2 are not in the plans.
