Report: Face-Lifted Volkswagen Golf to Debut in Geneva

A new report coming from Germany suggests that Volkswagen will debut a face-lifted Golf hatchback at the 2016 Geneva auto show. According to AutoBild, the German automaker will make minor changes to the car’s exterior design and focus mainly on the infotainment system.

The refreshed Volkswagen Golf is expected to receive a new multimedia interface with a large 9.2-inch touchscreen. At CES this year, Volkswagen debuted a new infotainment system that featured just such a display, along with improved voice controls, wireless mobile phone charging, electronic voice amplification, and improved connectivity. A head-up display is also in the cards for the refreshed Golf.

LED headlights are also rumored to be part of the car’s refresh along with a digital gauge cluster replacing the current analog setup. Additionally, Volkswagen is also rumored to be working on retuning the Golf’s steering and suspension calibration. The not-for-U.S. consumption Golf GTE, on the other hand, is expected to get a power bump from 204 hp to 218 hp while torque could rise from 258 lb-ft to 295 lb-ft.

Perhaps the most anticipated addition to the Golf lineup is the R420, which is also expected to join the range as part of the refresh. The hottest Golf is expected to be packing up to 420 hp but it isn’t known whether it will use a version of the 2.0-liter turbo-four found in the Golf R or the 2.5-liter turbo-five that’s currently in use in the Europe-only Audi RS 3.
