1 best of : 2017 Audi R8 V10 Plus Gets Frickin’ Lasers

Let there be laser light! Audi is teasing us now with an exclusive edition of the 2017 R8 V10 plus, that features…laser high beams. Yes, it’s Audi’s first production version of this new technology in the U.S., too.

Now, good guys like Tony Stark and super baddies like Dr. Evil can both have matching over the top sports cars.

The exclusive edition of 25 R8s will come with full LED headlights with a laser high beam module. The latest light tech will make its debut at the Los Angeles auto show this month.

According to Audi, “Each headlight contains one laser module that operates with four, high intensity laser diodes. Each module bundles these diodes into a blue laser beam with a wavelength of 450 nanometers. A phosphor converter then transforms the blue laser beam into a very bright and pure white light.”

It looks pretty frickin’ cool in the promo video by Audi below. Aside from the signature blue light of the laser headlights, the laser beam pattern is activated when the special edition R8 is traveling at least 40 mph. The laser rays supplement the LED high beam and project a low and wide beam of light on the road (or rave) ahead.

The special edition R8 also gets an exclusive Quantum Gray paint job, a titanium black-optic exterior package, gloss anthracite (coal) front grille, and 20-inch wheels in a high-gloss “coal” finish.

Other distinguishing options on the radical R8 include a Solar Orange vertical stripe on its iconic carbon side blade. There are also matching vertical orange leather elements in the interior and on the steering wheel.

Plus, if that’s not enough to make your Audi stand apart from the rest of the pack, the exclusive Alcantara headliner comes with diamond stitching. How decadent.

Audi says the 25 exclusive edition cars will retail for $229,200. It’s probably best to order yours now since they will most likely sell out fast.

Who knows, maybe someday they will be worth ….ONE MILLION DOLLARS. Or not.
