At this year’s New York auto show, Kia launched the second-generation 2017 Cadenza, its full-size, front-wheel-drive sedan. The company infused the new model with more tech, features, and a significant weight cut. We’ve known about its aluminum, advanced high-strength steel, and countless other improvements, but Kia had not announced the Cadenza’s pricing.
Today, Kia announced that the Cadenza will start at $32,890 for the base Premium trim, including a $900 destination fee. The tech-filled Technology trim will cost $39,890, while the range-topping Limited trim will run $45,290.
Safety technology available on the higher-level trims includes Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection, Forward Collision Warning, Surround View Monitor, Smart Blind Sport Detection, and High Beam Assist. Other available features also include a Kia-first head-up display, Nappa leather, 18- or 19-inch wheels, the Surround View Monitor camera system, an Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatible infotainment center, and a 12-speaker Harmon/Kardon sound system that should be a hit with audiophiles.
Kia says that what it wanted most for the new Cadenza was for the car to have a “library quiet” cabin. The use of special shock absorbers with Amplitude Selective Damping, Hydraulic Rebound Stoppers, and increased sound deadening, acoustic glass, and a new underbody shield help advance this goal. “The new Cadenza adds an extra dose of excitement to the large-car segment with its striking, aggressively handsome looks and premium refinements,” said Orth Hedrick, vice president of product planning for Kia Motors America, in a release.
Hedrick continued, “But it’s the bottom line where the Cadenza truly shines, offering more luxury, technology and features at a surprisingly affordable starting point, regardless of which trim level is most appealing to our customers.”
Kia only offers the 2017 Cadenza with one powertrain, a 3.3-liter V-6 good for 290 hp and 253 lb-ft of torque mated to an eight-speed automatic, with power sent exclusively to the front wheels. Those looking for a slightly upscale alternative to the Ford Taurus and Chevrolet Impala will be able to take one home from their local Kia dealer starting later this month.
