1 best of : 2016 Detroit Auto Show: What to Expect

CARS.COM — The North American International Auto Show in Detroit is the Cadillac of car exhibitions, one might say with a wink. The time for what is widely considered the nation's most prestigious auto show is upon us once more as the 2016 NAIAS warms up its engine and gets ready to hit the accelerator.

What to expect this year? We're anticipating a few surprises, since details for many of the planned debuts are still under wraps. There will be plenty of luxury-car news, from the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class and SLC-Class to the all-new-for-2017 S90 flagship sedan from Volvo. For performance enthusiasts, BMW will unveil the M2 and Porsche the 2017 911 Turbo.

On the SUV and pickup-truck front are the 2016 BMW X4 M40i, the Buick Envision, the 2017 Honda Ridgeline and the 2016 Infiniti QX60. Concept-car offerings include the Acura Precision luxury performance car and a premium SUV from Kia. Meanwhile, expect to also see significant new products on the Ford and Lincoln stages.

We'll add to the list as automakers inevitably start coughing up the info just before auto-show events kick off with a press preview Monday and Tuesday, an industry preview Wednesday and Thursday, and a charity preview Jan. 15 — all leading up to the public exhibition Jan. 16-24. As usual, NAIAS takes place at Detroit's Cobo Center at 1 Washington Blvd. Hours are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Jan. 16-23 and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 24, with no admittance an hour before closing each day.

Tickets are $13 for adults, and $7 for seniors age 65 or older and children ages 7-10; kids age 6 or younger get in free with a parent or guardian. A discounted rate of $9 a ticket is available for groups of 30 or more. Go to naias.com for more info.
