A leaked Audi product planning chart suggests that a V-6-powered version of the R8 is on its way and will be introduced in 2018. The V-6 engine is rumored to be an all-new, twin-turbocharged unit that’s expected to debut in the next-generation RS 4. Currently, only a V-10 engine is available in the 2017 R8 in two states of tune, 540 hp and 610 hp.
When it was originally revealed at the 2015 Geneva auto show, the Audi R8 was accompanied by an electric version called the R8 e-Tron, which features a large T-shaped lithium-ion battery paired to an electric motor making 455 hp and 679 lb-ft of torque. Once it is introduced, the R8 V6 will take the place of the V-8-powered R8, which served as the last generation’s entry-level variant.
According to the document, Audi will release new generations of the A5 and Q5, as well as a TT RS, R8 Spyder, and a high-performance variant of the Q7 SUV called the SQ7 in 2017. The following year will see the release of an array of new vehicles, including the return of the RS 5, new generations of the A6, A7, and A8, a Q8 large SUV, and the V-6-powered R8. In addition, alternative-propulsion vehicles are also in the cards, including the Q7 e-Tron and an unnamed electric vehicle that’s scheduled to debut in 2018.
