1 best of : Spied! 2017 Mercedes-AMG E63 Sedan Spotted Wearing Light Camo

Our spy photographers have managed to catch the 2017 Mercedes-AMG E63 conducting cold weather testing with little camouflage. As evident in the large air intakes and what looks to be carbon ceramic brakes behind the large alloy wheels, this E-Class is hiding something monstrous under the hood.

Up front and out back is where you’ll find clear hints that this isn’t your ordinary E-Class sedan. The front features a different grille with the split wing design element found in the majority of AMG vehicles, a lower area with three oversized air intakes to cool the brakes and the engine, and a different hood design that doesn’t go all the way to the headlights. In the back, the prototype features an exhaust system with quad tailpipes integrated into the bumper, which gives it away as an AMG version of the 2017 E-Class. From the side, the prototype is unassuming until you look at the large black-painted alloy wheels and the gold brake calipers.

Under the hood will likely be a version of the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 found in the C63 and AMG GT S. However, the variant that finds its way to the E63 could possibly have nearly 600 hp. A seven-speed SpeedShift automatic transmission should be the only gearbox available when the next-generation E63 hits the market. Expect the car to also be offered with an array of performance upgrades including high-performance brakes, more aggressive suspension tuning, and multiple drive modes so the driver can tailor everything to his or her liking. In addition to the sedan, expect the wagon to return while a third body style, a coupe, is also rumored to be part of the E63 lineup.

Look for the 2017 Mercedes-AMG E63 to debut sometime this year, likely the 2016 Paris auto show in October.
