Volvo Announces Updates for 2017 XC90, 60 Range

Volvo has announced an array of updates for the 2017 XC90 and the 60 range of vehicles. The XC90, which won Motor Trend’s 2016 SUV of the Year, gains a host of semi-autonomous driving technologies including Pilot Assist II, which can enable the car to follow clearly marked highways at speeds of up to 80 mph. Additional updates to the XC90 include large animal detection and Run-Off Road Mitigation, which auto steers the car and keeps it on the road.

Perhaps the most notable addition to the 2017 Volvo XC90 range is the XC90 Excellence, an ultra-luxury model that is now the range-topping variant. The interior of the XC90 Excellence features extended leather upholstery, hand-crafted crystal glasses made by Swedish glass maker Orrefors, individual adjustable rear seats with massage function and specially designed headrests, a refrigerator, two folding tables, and a cup holder with heating and cooling. Available only as a T8 plug-in hybrid, the XC90 Excellence combines an electric motor with a 2.0-liter super- and turbocharged I-4 for a combined output of 400 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque. The XC90 Excellence will go on sale in the U.S. in summer 2016.

For the 60 range, the 2.5-liter turbo I-5 in T5 AWD models has been replaced with the new 2.0-liter turbo-four from the new Drive-E engine family that makes 240 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. The six-speed automatic transmission has been dropped in favor of the eight-speed unit used in front-drive models and the new vehicles in the 90 cluster. Two new 18-inch alloy wheel options have been added to the S60, V60, and XC60, while a new 20-inch wheel has been added exclusively to the XC60. R-Design models will get a new selection of 18-, 19-, and 20-inch wheel options. Two new exterior colors, Luminous Sand and Mussel Blue have been added to the S60, V60, and XC60 lineup, while their R-Design variants get Bursting Blue as the third new color.

Volvo’s On Call smartphone app has also been updated and now includes a calendar integration that connects to your personal calendar. The app can now provide support for up to 10 Volvo vehicles and is now compatible with Windows 10, enabling you to interact with your car using a PC or a tablet. CleanZone, which is Volvo’s filtration technology that removes harmful pollutants in the air before it enters the cabin, has also been integrated to the S60, V60, and XC60.
