1 best of : Audi A5 Cabriolet Looks Sharp Ahead of 2017 Launch

After revealing the new A5 coupe several months ago, Audi is now bringing out the cabriolet model. The new Audi A5 Cabriolet and S5 Cabriolet go on sale globally in March 2017.

The proportions of the new A5 look good on the convertible version, which is 1.9 inches longer than its predecessor. The front end receives the familiar Singleframe grille and is flatter and wider on the new model. The rear window is also flatter, and creases running the entire length of the body emphasize the convertible’s curvy hips.

To make life easier, the model receives a new one-touch opening function for the soft top. Pull a switch, and the soft top will open automatically in 15 seconds or close in 18 seconds. The mechanism works while driving at speeds up to 31.1 mph.

Key features offered on the A5 Cab include 30-color ambient interior lighting, MMI navigation plus with MMI touch, smartphone connectivity for iOS and Android, a 12.3-inch TFT monitor, a head-up display, Bang & Olufsen Sound system with 3D sound, and automatic opening of the tailgate with the remote control key, button on the driver’s door, or with a kicking movement of the foot under the bumper. Standard seat belt microphones help drivers with giving precise commands to the infotainment system. Due to the car’s increased dimensions and wheelbase, and because the seats are now smaller, there is more shoulder room in the front row and more knee room in the rear, Audi says.

Powertrain offerings will match the coupe. For global markets, that means a 2.0-liter TFSI engine with 252 hp, a 2.0-liter TDI with 190 hp, a 3.0-liter TDI with 218 hp, and later down the line, a 2.0-liter TFSI with 190 hp and a 3.0-liter TDI with 286 hp. The S5 Cabriolet boasts a 3.0-liter TFSI V-6 engine with 354 hp, up 21 hp from the previous model. Audi estimates it takes 5.1 seconds to hit 62 mph in the new S5 Cabriolet. Audi has estimated a 0-62 mph time of 4.7 seconds for the new coupe.

For the U.S. market, it’s likely we’ll only receive the 252-hp 2.0-liter engine and the 354-hp 3.0-liter TFSI for the S5. The new A5 and S5 Cabriolet should reach our shores as a 2018 model-year vehicle after the European model comes out in March 2017. Rumor has it that along with the coupe and convertible, an A5 Sportback will also arrive in the U.S.
