Kia is spicing up the funky Soul by adding a new trim with a dose of forced induction. Powering the new 2017 Kia Soul Exclaim is a 1.6-liter turbo-four that makes a perky 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque, the latter available between 1,500 and 4,500 rpm. Those figures represent a 41-hp and 45-lb-ft gain over the 2.0-liter I-4 in the midrange Soul Plus.
In addition to the new engine, Kia is launching the Soul Exclaim with a new seven-speed dual clutch automatic. Despite the extra power, the combined powertrain is actually slightly more economical, with the Exclaim’s EPA rating of 26/31 mpg city/highway exceeding the Base and Plus by 1 mpg.
Separating the Exclaim from the rest of the Soul lineup are unique 18-inch wheels, red-accented body trim, chrome grille surround, and dual chrome exhaust tips.
Pricing for the 2017 Kia Soul Exclaim starts at $23,500, including an $850 destination fee. The option list of the loaded range-topping trim is short, consisting only of a $1,000 panoramic sunroof and a $3,000 technology package that adds a navigation system, power adjustable front seats, HID headlights, and a premium Harman/Kardon audio system.
Kia did not specify availability for the Soul Exlaim, but the new variant of the square compact should be rolling into showrooms shortly.
