2017 Honda Clarity Fuel Cell Rated at 366 Miles of Range

The 2017 Honda Clarity Fuel Cell sedan has just earned an EPA rating of 366 miles of range. With that news, the 2017 Clarity Fuel Cell will top the short list of hydrogen-powered competitors including the Toyota Mirai and Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell.

The Honda Clarity Fuel Cell made its North American debut at last year’s Los Angeles auto show and will finally reach California showrooms by the end of 2016. Honda will initially sell the Clarity Fuel Cell through 12 dealerships in the state (six in Northern California and the remainder in Los Angeles and Orange County) and says the vehicle will be available to customers who live or work within 10 miles of a hydrogen fueling station. There are approximately 20 stations in California, though both Honda and Toyota have invested in accelerating the hydrogen fueling network.

As previously reported, Honda’s new Clarity features a fuel cell that is 33 percent smaller, but offers a 60-percent increase in power density compared to its predecessor. The five-passenger Clarity Fuel Cell rides on a dedicated platform that will eventually spawn a plug-in hybrid and an all-electric model as part of Honda’s new Clarity family. Pricing for the Clarity Fuel Cell hasn’t been released, but Honda says it should cost around $60,000 with a monthly lease price of under $500. That puts it on par with the Mirai and Tucson Fuel Cell, which travels 312 and 265 miles between refills, respectively.
