New Dodge Challenger GT AWD Confirmed by EPA Site

Thanks to the Environmental Protection Agency, we pretty much have confirmation that an all-wheel-drive Dodge Challenger GT is on the way.

The EPA recently updated its website to include fuel economy data on a 2017 Dodge Challenger GT, which, according to the site is powered by the automaker’s 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 paired with an eight-speed automatic. The EPA rates the all-wheel-drive Challenger GT at 18/27 mpg city/highway. As expected, that’s less than the rear-drive version’s rating of 19/30 mpg.

At last year’s SEMA show, Dodge showed up with the Challenger GT AWD concept. That car was powered by the 5.7-liter V-8 and featured all-wheel drive hardware from the Charger (which will likely be the case for the Challenger GT). And while the EPA only lists a V-6-powered Challenger GT, there’s still a chance Dodge could also offer a V-8. The V-8 option was killed on the all-wheel-drive Charger, however.

Dodge hasn’t officially announced the existence of the new model, but a recent report suggests it’ll be ready to launch sometime next year. Rumors also suggest the Challenger GT will also be joined by a special Challenger SRT Hellcat fitted with a wide-body kit. It’s believed that Dodge created the new variants to tide fans over until the next-generation Challenger arrives, which has been delayed to no sooner than 2018.
