Electric car startup Atieva recently unveiled teaser photos of its upcoming production car and announced it has changed the company’s name to Lucid. The news comes a week after the discovery of an image depicting what could be Lucid’s future sedan dubbed “Atvus.”
Lucid hasn’t confirmed the Atvus name, but it did reveal three teaser shots including one of the front fascia that appears to be grille-less. Another photo shows what looks to be the rear corner of a glass roof revealing the back seat, and the last shot showcases part of the steering wheel and intricate instrument panel. The head of Lucid design is Derek Jenkins who previous led Mazda’s design team responsible for current models like the ND MX-5 Miata.
As previously reported, Lucid has been testing its “Edna” prototype based on a Mercedes-Benz Vito sedan that is powered by the company’s electric powertrain (rumored to be churning out 900 hp). Lucid published numerous YouTube videos featuring Edna, including one where the prototype launches from 0-60 mph in just 2.7 seconds. Lucid’s powertrain team is led by Peter Rawlinson, a Tesla transplant who helped develop the Model S. According to recent reports, the company is currently scouting locations for a U.S. manufacturing facility and has set a goal to begin production by 2018.
